Joan was very welcoming, as was the room. Everything we needed including a fridge to put our picnic supper and table and chairs for eating it. The room was spacious, bed very comfortable and very thoughtful ideas: a top sheet as well as duvet (I wish hotels would get that idea); mugs and cups/saucers and fresh milk all got top marks. We were able to walk to Welbeck Abbey (where we had a great tour and rum tastings at Dropworks), using rural lanes. We enjoyed our short stay at Browns and hope to return.

We had a lovely stay here and we would definitely visit again. Joan was a kind, friendly and thoughtful host who made us feel very welcome. Our room was comfortable and clean with the bonus of a huge bed! Joan had thought of everything a weary traveller would need, including slippers, robe, toiletries, fridge with milk, plenty of tea and coffee and biscuits, bottle opener and even an umbrella and torch for an evening walk! There is a lovely designated terrace seating area for each room which is peaceful with pretty garden views. Browns was easy to find with a clear parking place for each room. Our breakfast was the tastiest and most beautifully prepared we have ever had in a BnB so thank very much Joan for our fantastic visit and we hope to see you again x

This was our return visit, the first was 16 years ago. Very exciting for us to catch up with Joan again, she was so welcoming and as before, gave us great recommendations for the local area (walks, pubs, areas to visit etc.). The accommodation is extremely comfortable, along with an excellent freshly prepared full breakfast, and in such beautiful gardens and surroundings. We just loved the forest walk down to Cresswell Crags, the museums and coffee shops. Let's hope we can return once again.

I was needing a place to stay close to the Welbeck estate and was recommended Browns. It is a lovely place, with independent rooms and a welcoming host who has loads of knowledge about the local area and quickly got us set up with an evening meal in a pub nearby. And, being less than a mile from the Welbeck courtyard it was perfectly located. My room was clean, warm and cosy and well maintained. I'd come back again if in the area.

I so enjoyed a one-night stay at Browns. Joan was friendly, accommodating, and attentive. The comfortable garden room was complete with thoughtful touches, including a fan, dressing gown, plenty of hangers, and even mending kits. Joan also generously offered me a lift to the School of Artisan Food where I was studying. Thank you for your hospitality, Joan!

The location is wonderful, so peaceful and my garden room (3) was amazing with a four poster bed.Lots of variety on the tea and coffee tray with biscuits and even welcome chocolates. The bathroom has a full size bath which is such a luxury.I’ll definitely be back.

I had the pleasure of staying at this charming rural English cottage bed and breakfast, and it was an absolute delight. While my stay was short, the tranquility of the countryside and the beautiful surroundings left a lasting impression. The cottage itself exuded warmth and coziness, making it the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. What truly stood out was the symphony of birdsong that enveloped the area. Waking up to the gentle chirping of birds was a soul-soothing experience. The hosts were incredibly welcoming and made me feel right at home. Their attention to detail and commitment to creating a peaceful atmosphere was evident throughout my stay.Though brief, my time at Brown's was a breath of fresh air, and I left feeling rejuvenated and grateful for the serene moments spent here. I look forward to returning for a longer stay to fully immerse myself in this idyllic countryside retreat."

We were attending a wedding at Hazel Gap and stumbled across this little gem when searching for places to stay nearby. It is an absolutely stunning and quiet B&B that is obviously the pride and joy of the owner, Joan.Joan was personally extremely accomodating, allowing us to check-in early to get ready for the wedding. The food was all locally sourced and she takes a lot of pride in that, along with her vast knowledge of the area. The room reflected the surroundings too. It was big, the bed was extremely comfortable and the bathroom was immaculate.Hazel Gap should really help in promoting this B&B for wedding guests and I was shocked to find out they don't. Less than a 10 minute drive to the venue and a truly wonderful place to stay.I cannot recommend this place enough.

It’s not often that one stumbles across such a beautiful location. Not just any old B&B but such a relaxing environment to stay.Be carful of the ducks as you slowly turn into the drive! Although this was a business stay I would recommend it to anyone for business or holiday. My breakfast was as good as any high class hotel, better in fact with local produce and cooked by Mrs Brown to perfection. Just wonderful!

From the moment we arrived and saw the beautiful grounds we knew we had booked the perfect place for an overnight stay. Joan was fantastic, she arranged reservations at the local pub for dinner and provided us with local taxi numbers as we were attending a wedding at Hazel Gap Barn that evening. The room was gorgeous and very luxurious and we had the best nights sleep ever in the four poster bed. We loved the fact that robes and slippers were provided and the ample refreshments and toiletries were a lovely touch. We thoroughly enjoyed our breakfast the next morning, the ingredients all sourced locally. I would highly recommend this place to anyone, the only downside was that we were only staying for one night! Well worth 5 stars, Joan was the perfect host… ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Absolutely loved my stay at Browns, a wonderful and peaceful haven on the Notts/Derbyshire border. Lovely room, four poster bed, luxurious towels and absolutely everything else you could need, including a small fridge and bottle opener/ corkscrew. There’s a terrace outside the 3 rooms where you can take breakfast or relax with a coffee or a cold beer. Lovely, well maintained gardens with a duck pond (with a new resident) and the odd pheasant running around. Close to Welbeck Estate, Sherwood Forest and a short drive to the Peak District. I must say that Joan the owner made me feel so welcome during my stay, nothing was too much trouble, I felt as if I’d been going there for years. Thanks again Joan. Highly, highly recommended. Breakfast was beautifully cooked and presented - the service and overall breakfast experience was a real treat. The location is perfect for exploring all the area has to offer. The next day we made the most of the nearby public footpath and joined the Robin Hood Way which took us to Creswell Craggs within 20 minutes, (which which was definitely worth a visit). We stayed at Browns at Holbeck on 23rd January for one night for my birthday – what a wonderful place in a beautiful setting. As we arrived, we were met by our smiling host Joan Brown and nothing was too much trouble for her. Joan gave us a lovely welcome on a cold wintry day and showed us to our warm, very comfortable and bright Garden Room No 2. Very well equipped with everything we could possibly need including our own bathrobes and tea and coffee etc. the en-suite bathroom was luxurious and well-lit with lots toiletries and lovely towels to use. We looked forward to breakfast after seeing the menu and talking this through with our host and we were not disappointed. I appreciated the fresh flowers, fresh fruit and so much choice. Our breakfast was beautifully presented, my poached eggs were exactly right and my husband really enjoyed the local produce for his full English Breakfast. Joan also showed us places of interest and where we could visit in the vicinity. As we left the pheasants were on the lawn and the birds were singing, we shall definitely return I cannot wait to see the garden in early summer.

Browns is a beautifully quiet place, surrounded by nature - we woke to pheasants outside the window. Every detail has been thought of, and Joan is such a welcoming host, nothing was too much trouble. Looking forward to my next stay.

Peaceful place and beautiful. Good breakfast with an attentive hostess with an eye for details; good presentation. Unfortunately I found the pillows horrible and the use of a sheet under the duvet unpleasant. The shower was functional but not an enjoyable experience. Lovely towels.

Lovely English country B&B with all the trimmings. Bedroom and ensuite are spacious, comfortable and very tastefully appointed. Everything you need is there with enough room and in sensible, handy places. The cooked breakfast is the best we have had anywhere and Joan was very helpful with local knowledge of what to do and see, and where to eat. All in all, it's an excellent place to stay.

I stayed at Brown's Holbeck on Thursday 10th October 2016. Joan ensured I was settled in the room, fully explaining everything I needed to know for my stay. I was booked in room number 2, deluxe super king and it was so comfortable, like home from home. The breakfast was wonderful, organic and local produce made such a difference to the taste. The grounds are picturesque and I really cannot fault anything. I like walking and there are many walks that can be done from here so I intend to return for a long weekend in the spring. I have stayed in lots of hotels and B&B’s and you will not find many Bed and Breakfasts as good as this. Thank you Joan, this is perfect for me.

We had travelled north for the Osberton Horse Trials and Browns was the perfect place for us to stay.Joan was most welcoming and helpful, and the room was well prepared and equipped and the bed very comfy. The highlight was the wonderful breakfast with great attention to detail and served in the very cosy dining room of the main house.Nothing was too much trouble and we had the perfect stay.

This accommodation was ideal- situated amongst beautiful gardens, alongside a pond, patio and plenty of wildlife! The b & b owners were friendly and made me and my partner feel most welcome. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who is looking to relax and take in the countryside. It is outside of Nottingham (approx. 25 miles away) however, it is close to a lovely garden centre and café/restaurant. Overall, this was a wonderful stay :-)

We had a very comfortable and quite nights stay. An excellent breakfast was served with great style and attentiveness. The Ritz would not have done better. The owners went out of their way to be helpful, booking a table for dinner at a local restaurant for us and making sure we had directions when leaving so that we could avoid some major roadworks. We were very happy.

From the warm welcome to the excellent breakfast, Browns was without fault. My room, Garden Room No1, was very well appointed and heaving with the extras you would normally only expect at a much more expensive Hotel.A great deal for a relatively small amount of money!

I spent one night at Browns before attending a bread making course at the Artisan School of Food. I was made very welcome and even given a complimentary upgrade. The room was lovely - spotlessly clean and comfortable. It was situated outside the main house in beautiful gardens with a deck outside. Breakfast was delicious, and afterwards Robin even escorted me to the cookery school! I would very highly recommend Browns to anyone wanting to stay in this beautiful part of the world.

This was a last minute booking and I am pleased to say what a great choice Browns was! We had a fantastic overnight stay, the room was exactly as described (we stayed in Garden Room 2, Superior King room). Joan and Robin greeted us warmly and Robin showed us to the room. Joan then helped us find a restaurant locally and was very informative about the local dining as it was late on a Sunday evening and being Bank Holiday Monday the following day she knew where would still be open and serving food. Breakfast was an absolute treat, we both opted for The Old Orchard Breakfast which was not only delicious but beautifully presented.Overall I would highly recommend Browns and I would like to thank Joan and Robin for their fantastic hospitality.
